Cystic Fibrosis Talk

Holly Periera was born with a life limiting condition, Holly and her brother Jake have always relied on the amazing team at Lewisham Hospital to look after their health and make the best decisions, along with their amazing mum, Andrea!

They have both been patients at the CF unit at Lewisham since birth, spending weeks at a time there and then both recently underwent life saving lung transplant operations at Harefield Hospital.

Now she is telling the world her story as part of a campaign to raise funds for these amazing hospitals and to help her give just a little back for the help and support that literally saved her and her brother's lives.

She came to speak to our Rotary Club earlier this month also about signing up on the Organ Donor Register

Tonbridge Rotary Visit

A good number of members took part in a ‘raid’ on Tonbridge Rotary Club at the invitation of their President, Robert Greenhalgh.  A talk on Tonbridge At War by Eddie Prescott was captivating and very informative at a local level. There was good time to talk to their members on Rotary generally and reciprocal invitations will be made shortly.  As part of our engaging with other local clubs this superb evening helped greatly.

Harveys Brewery Visit

Having been on the waiting list for over a year we were pleased to finally get on a brewery tour at Harvey’s Brewery in Lewes.  The tour was a great success with an organised coach pick up from the NGC and Crowborough.  With a superb tasting at the end followed by a local fish & chip supper before the coach home a good time was had by all.

Australia Visit

One of the best aspects of being a member of Rotary is the welcome you receive worldwide from other clubs.  Following a chance meeting with Kevin ‘Tiggy’ Tiggemann a member of the Rotary Club of Kidman Park just outside Adelaide, Roy Patey, then VP, got an invitation to their meeting.  This was more than special as that evening the President, Jenny Harris, welcomed the District Governor Peter Schaeffer.  There were over 40 members in attendance and a very enjoyable evening was had by all.

Flag Exchange at the Pantiles

One of the pleasing aspects of Rotary is to be able to visit any other club in the World and be made welcome.

However it is not often possible to attend a club meeting if your holiday schedule is not accommodating the club meeting frequency.

Recently our club Secretary, David Buckley, was able to meet up with Rtn. Kate Whitfield from Grayson Rotary Club in Texas, USA for a coffee on The Pantiles which was a pleasant social meeting offering an invitation to visit her club if we were ever over there

Wiesbaden Visit

Royal Tunbridge Wells is twinned with Wiesbaden in Germany.  The Rotary Club of The Pantiles is twinned with the Wiesbaden Rotary club and has been for over 25 years.  During that time we have alternated visits between our clubs on an annual basis.  These photos show the visit from a number of Wiesbaden Rotarians to us in 2016 and our trip to Chiddingstone Castle.  On that same day we also looked in at the Penshurst Craft Fair.

This year we plan to entertain them again in the late Summer, more details to follow.

Summer Outings

As our meeting days occur on a Thursday usually we take the opportunity in the Summer to visit the Jazz on the Pantiles if we can. Here a number of members along with wives and partners enjoy a cool evening dining at Woods and taking in the atmosphere.
